Chapter 4: Academic Structure, Classes & Sections

This chapter explains how to configure your institution's academic hierarchy, manage grades, classes, sections, subject masters, and assign class teachers.


1. Academic Sessions & Hierarchy

Uttercode School ERP organizes academic data using a clear 4-level structure:

  Academic Session (e.g. 2026-2027)
         ↓
  Classes / Grades (e.g. Grade 1 to 12, Pre-Primary)
         ↓
  Sections (e.g. Section A, Section B, Section C)
         ↓
  Subjects & Teachers (e.g. Mathematics - Mr. Sharma)

2. Managing Classes & Sections

Navigate to Academic & Students → Classes & Sections (index.php?page=school_classes).

Creating a New Class

  1. Click + Add New Class.
  2. Enter the Class Name (e.g. Grade 10 or Class X).
  3. Select the Class Level: Pre-Primary, Primary, Middle School, Secondary, Senior Secondary.
  4. Select the Numeric Grade Code (e.g. 10).
  5. Click Save Class.

Adding Sections to a Class

  1. Locate the class in the list and click + Add Section.
  2. Enter the Section Name (e.g. A, B, Rose, Einstein).
  3. Set the Max Student Capacity (e.g. 40).
  4. Select the Assigned Class Teacher from the faculty directory.
  5. Select the Room / Classroom Number (e.g. Room 204).
  6. Click Save Section.

3. Subject Master & Curriculum Mapping

To assign subjects to classes:

  1. Navigate to Academic & Students → Subject Master.
  2. Click + Add Subject.
  3. Fill in the subject details:
  1. Map the subject to target classes and assign the designated Subject Teacher.

4. Promoting Students to Next Academic Session

At the end of an academic year:

  1. Navigate to Academic & Students → Promote Students.
  2. Select the Source Session & Class (e.g. 2025-2026 / Grade 9-A).
  3. Select the Target Session & Class (e.g. 2026-2027 / Grade 10-A).
  4. Review the student roster:
  1. Click Execute Batch Promotion. All selected student records, roll numbers, and historical ledgers are automatically transitioned into the new academic year without duplicating data.
