Comprehensive QR Code Guide & Best Practices

A Quick Response (QR) code is a two-dimensional barcode capable of encoding numeric, alphanumeric, and binary data. Scanned in milliseconds by modern smartphones, QR codes link offline physical materials to digital actions seamlessly.

1. Static vs Dynamic QR Codes

Static QR Codes

The target content is directly encoded into the visual matrix. Once printed, it cannot be edited. Ideal for Wi-Fi credentials, vCard contacts, and fixed UPI IDs.

Dynamic QR Codes

The QR points to a short redirection URL. The destination link can be updated anytime without reprinting, and scan metrics (device, city, time) can be tracked in Uttercode ERP.

2. How to Ensure Scannability

  • Maintain High Contrast: Ensure the foreground (dots) is distinctly darker than the background. Avoid light gray on white or dark blue on black.
  • Preserve the Quiet Zone: Keep at least 4 modules of clear padding around the QR code so camera sensors can isolate the matrix.
  • Use Level H Error Correction for Logos: If placing a brand logo in the center, always use Level H (30% error correction) to replace occluded data.
  • Appropriate Print Size: For business cards, use at least 2x2 cm. For posters, maintain a 10:1 ratio (distance to scanning ratio).

3. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Are QR codes generated here free for commercial use?
Yes! All static QR codes generated on Uttercode are 100% free with no expiration date, no scan limits, and no watermark restrictions.
How do UPI Payment QR codes work?
UPI QR codes adhere to the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) standard format (`upi://pay?pa=...`). When scanned with Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, or BHIM, the payee name and amount pre-fill immediately.
Which format should I download for printing on merchandise or packaging?
Always download the SVG format. SVG is an infinite resolution vector graphic that stays razor-sharp whether printed on a tiny 25mm label or a massive 10-meter billboard.
